Frequently Asked Questions
What is traditional astrology?
During long period of time astrology remained devoted to its initial principles, though astrological techniques had been changing. And just around 250 years ago astrology as it was before has ceased. Instead of it the “New Age” astrology has appeared.
What was the reason for this historical phenomenon? The Copernicus scientific revolution which happened in 17th century rejected any mystical or daemon knowledge which didn’t fit into mechanical paradigm. This paradigm was intensively supported by the Jesuits Order which spread it all over the Europe trough educational process. This created a new generation with mechanical way of thinking. Thus the whole stratum of occult knowledge was forgotten. The western astrology also didn’t avoid this process. The very essence of astrological art – the art of prediction of Fate – was rejected by quickly growing scientific society which became more and more dominant in the West. The mathematical part of astrology was transformed into modern astronomy. The basic principles and techniques of astrology were subject to revision or were just forgotten. As a result an enormous substitution of astrological basis had place. The astrologers of new formation who has grown in new intellectual environment continued to change astrological basis to bring academese into astrology. This process still continues and astrology still miles away from modern natural science. Anyway the only science which accepted astrology as discipline was psychology. So the new branch of psychology – the astropsychology has appeared to open the gates to humanistic astrology of new age. A major part of principles of modern astrology we familiar with were created by our recent predecessors. The modern property of signs, the minor aspects, the modern triplicity rulership, the modern meaning of some astrological houses and so on – all they were created within last two centuries.
One can call “Traditional Astrology” stratum of philosophy and world-view together with prediction techniques which existed during a few thousand years until a middle of 17th century. This stratum of knowledge was stayed untouched in archives of world libraries until recent years when it was resurrected by translators from dead languages and practicing astrologers. The traditional astrology is based on world-view which is not compatible with mechanical thinking of our era – this is the main problem in understanding of forgotten ideas. But even the pieces of knowledge we derived demonstrate amazing accuracy of predictive techniques of ancients.
The deeper I dive into this knowledge the more I feel level of my own ignorance and boundlessness of well of wisdom reserved for us by ancients. I would like to repeat here my Teacher’s words: “We are just at the foot of a hill. Astrology is a long way a whole life long”
What is principal difference between modern and traditional astrology?
Modern astrology looks at the birthchart as at drama which takes place within the inner world of native. Humanistic astrology considers a man to be a center of the world. Modern astrologers sacredly believe in absence of Fatum and in power of man to change his fate. They speak a lot on psychological aspects. You may hear how fascinating you are, you may hear about coming period of emotional turbulence or tension in financial sphere, about nice period for self-realization or dealing with partners but you can hardly hear about specific events in your life. The judgment of modern astrologers is mostly based on intuition. It is widely believed that the more intuitive astrologer – the better he judges.
Traditional astrology is very different. Ancients looked at the birthchart as at drama which took place within living Creative Cosmic Mind whose ever ordering work appears around a man. Traditional astrology considered the Highest Reason to be a center of the world. Astrologers of old school concentrated on birth, culmination and death of all things, on coming meetings and partings, on creations and destructions, on ascents and descents of men and nations, on whole rotation which one can call “the form of life” or “ever change of matter“. Astrology based on natural philosophy principles about which some modern astrologers even do not know. According to ancients everything in this sublunary world is subject to birth and death in strictly fated time according to mathematically precise harmony of Upper Spheres. Man’s body and things around it are also subject to lows of sublunary world and no doubt are subject to birth, culmination and fall. It is not in man’s power to influence the cause of these phenomena (which exists on a level higher of its own and outside a rhythm of time) since mortal man shaped in flesh is subject to lows of fated time and inferior always follows superior. The judgments of ancients were based on logic and common sense – intuition was not always a good friend on a way of prediction.
What is horary astrology?
Horary astrology is one of the branches of astrology. Its name derives from Latin hora - hour, time.. This is astrology of fated time: when the specific hour comes the client will come to astrologer with specific question. Astrologer looks at the sidereal chart of current moment to find an answer in stars. Horary astrology per se consider horoscope of the question.
It is common error to think that question can be asked in any time – “what if I come to astrology tomorrow and the chart will show another answer?” There is no such think as “what if”. Ancients believed that motives which animate the man toward the astrologer are not spontaneously raised up, but in accordance with movement of the heaven. One will undecidedly carry his question for weeks, another will encounter with difficulties on his way to astrologer but the third will ask his question immediately – all this just consequence of more powerful causes. The stars join together the astrologer and the querent through unknowable ways in predefined place in a specific time just to show an answer to that question which was fated to be asked before a querent was born.
Cosmos is very delicate mechanism and precision with which stars show an answer is really amazing. The heartier a question asked the more lucid picture is shown by stars, the less probability to make a wrong judgment. This is organization of cosmos.
Horary astrology allows to answer any question both momentary and global: “Where is my cat? Where will I meet him? What will the weather be like tomorrow? Who will win the election? When will the war finish?”
Horary astrology is a basic and simplest brunch of astrological art which allows come right to the answer in minutes.
What types of astrology do exist
1) Horary Astrology, is a basic art of astrology. It allows quickly get the answers on any question in minutes. Its undoubted advantage is possibility to see details which can hardly be derived from the Book of Fate. For instance you can hardly know from your birthchart if it is worth to celebrate your birthday next week outside or inside your house depending on weather condition.
2) The next level of astrological art is Natal Astrology (from Latin natus - fated, born). It is more complicated than horary astrology and considers horoscopes of birth-time to read the Book of Fate. What is fated to a man? Will he become a king or a slave, deathman or jester? Is it fated to create a family and live long and happily or he will encounter with death in youth? Astrologer can read the Book of Fate but he can hardly change anything there. One can put medicine astrology on the same level of difficulty with natal astrology – in particular decumbitur astrology (from Latin decumbo - take to one's bed)
3) The next level of astrological art is Electional Astrology (from Latin electus - election) which allows to choose the most appropriate moment for new activity – for building the bridge, for foundation of new company, for election of new president – to achieve specific results.
4) The top level of astrological art is Mundane Astrology (from Latin mundanus - mundane) which considers the fate of cities, states, nations and even civilizations.
All these types of astrology – from basic (horary) upto the top (mundane) – consider the Fate. All they are kinds of predictive astrology which is often called judicial astrology (from Latin judicium - verdict).
